Nepal weather & when to go: October

Nepal October weather overview

October is the month when most tourists visit Nepal. In fact around 50% of all visitors to the country come in October. The mighty Himalayas are at their finest, easily visible in clear skies and the weather is warm and sunny. After the monsoon rains in July and August the hillsides and national parks are covered in lush greenery. Many of the country's biggest festivals take place at this time of year too.

October’s weather in detail

If you're planning a trip to Nepal, October is a great time to visit as the weather is pretty much perfect. Days are characterised by pleasantly mild temperatures in the low to mid 20s. The air is clear and the sunshine is bright, so spectacular views of the vast Himalaya are guaranteed. With the weather so good, it's not surprising that trekking routes can be busy and teahouses crowded, but don't worry, there's still plenty of space for everyone. Wildlife in the national parks is abundant and easy to spot at this time of year. The pleasant temperatures are also ideal for exploring Nepal's ancient historic towns with their wing-roofed temples, hidden squares and frenetic markets.

Rhinos & Rhododendrons

Taking an alternative approach to a classic Nepal combination, this journey contrasts the heady and hectic streets of Kathmandu with the open savannah of Chitwan National Park. Slow down to search for tigers and rhinos amid the wilderness, before strapping up your boots for a light trek between two atmospheric lodges in the Himalayan foothills around Pokhara.
