Deep in the jungle of Botum Sakor National Park, Cardamom Tented Camp combines a passion for sustainability with an enthusiasm for sharing the beauty of the region around the Cardamom Mountains. The camp itself is a half hour boat ride from the small village of Trapeang Rung. Stepping off the boat, you wander through the trees to where the tents and central lodge are set in a natural clearing; a sanctuary from the interruptions of modern life where you can discover more about preserving the diverse flora and fauna of this part of Cambodia.
This is the ideal setting to combine a connection to one of Cambodia’s most extraordinary landscapes with a sense of rural luxury that truly allows you to relax. Kayak down the river, hike through the surrounding forest and discover more about the camp’s dedicated conservation work, before returning to base to relax. The really intrepid can even head deeper into the jungle to spend a night under more basic canvas with the sounds of the wilderness all around…
On the banks of the Preak Tachan river, a 30-minute boat ride from the departure point, the only way to reach this remote spot is by water.

The tented lodges are equipped to a surprisingly high level of comfort. Raised on stilts, they feel airy and spacious. Full-size hotel-quality beds with cosy linens take centre stage within the pale canvas walls. Large meshed windows let in the light and fans circulate the air keeping the interiors cool. Bamboo and wooden furniture adds to the feeling of homeliness, while the separate en-suites (complete with hot showers and full facilities) could even make you momentarily forget that you’re in a tent! Each lodge has its own private terrace where you can sit and soak up your peaceful surroundings.
This project is true eco-sustainability at its best, with the motto that their visitors ‘keep the forest standing’. You’ll learn about the dedicated conservation and monitoring work of the project, including cataloguing the area’s plant and animal life, and accompany the rangers into the forest to see which local wildlife has been snapped by the camera traps. Take a self-guided hike along the trails, or explore the river by kayak, before returning to camp to enjoy a hearty meal of traditional Khmer dishes as you listen to the enchanting sounds of the forest at dusk.
Take a boat trip for the final half-hour of your journey to this remote camp, deep in the unspoilt wilderness of the Cardamom Mountains where your welcoming luxury tent awaits. Explore the surroundings of the camp, head out on gentle wanders through the surrounding forest listening out for birdsong, and take to the water to kayak, tube or take a boat down the river. Return to camp for delicious dishes in the covered restaurant and cocktails as the sun sets.
The Cardamom Tented camp are serious about preserving the ecology of the surrounding landscape, supporting the efforts of the Wildlife Alliance with projects in Botum Sakor National Park.
