This well-known 25 acres of lakeside opulence is a Keralan fantasy of architecture, food and general lavishness. As a legacy resort, Kumarakom has a long history of entertaining Bollywood stars and foreign dignitaries. Standing on the shores of India’s longest lake, it offers a waterside sanctuary and is a popular way to spend a few nights pre or post backwater cruising.
A series of lawns, canals and tropical foliage add to the ambience. Set around the grounds are a series of villas and suites in the local Keralan style, some even re-built with reclaimed materials from local period properties. The party piece is the long meandering swimming pool, which is like a small lake, with 2-storey villas set all around. Dining is an event, with a large, central restaurant serving up Keralan specialties, as well as a smaller seafood bar at the lakefront.
