The Taj Exotica is, without doubt, one of the world’s most exciting luxury beach outposts. Eclipsed only by its surroundings, it has become an A-list hotel in the superstar destination of the Andman islands. A modern beach resort built to cater to today's expectations in sustainability and natural sensitivity, this hotel is a triumph and has received many plaudits from the lifestyle and travel press. The construction navigates around the natural features. No trees were felled to make way for the resort, which meanders through a medley of sand, coconut palms and mangroves. A true tropical fantasy.
Individual villas occupy a stunning curve of Radhanagar beach. Set back behind foliage, there are huge outdoor spaces to make your own. While many use their time here to recharge, finding yourself in one of the world’s most exhilarating island groups means there’s a wide range of experiences and activities to fill your time. There is, perhaps, nowhere more exotic than the Andaman and Nicobar islands, and this resort is at the pinnacle.
Arrive at Port Blair by air and then reach Havelock Island via a 90-minute fast catamaran ride. The resort is a further 30-minute drive along bumpy tracks, surrounded by trees that extend towards the island’s idyllic coast.
Sizeable, family-friendly villas
Private pools & terraces
Olympic-sized infinity pool
Outstanding spa
For me the Taj was the best travel experience I have ever had. We loved the mainland but it was just the antidote to arrive in the Andamans and this incredible accommodation.
Discover what to expect from staying at Taj Exotica Andamans
We love the destination more than anything, but having this very special accommodation available makes the stay even more memorable. Right now, it’s safe to say the Taj Andamans is at the top of the tree. It's also the most expensive, of course, but if you’re comfortable with the investment then you will reap the rewards.
The atmosphere is slightly more formal than you might expect, with a light dress code at dinner which fits with potentially dining alongside the odd Bollywood star! This property is a part of a vanguard of up and coming resorts excelling in sustainable design, which chimes with all our values.
The location itself is enough to fill you with joy, and no-one would blame any traveller for simply retreating to their patio after breakfast with a favourite book, or ambling to the treeline infinity pool for a change of scenery. However, adventure awaits for those who seek it. The sunset kayak paddle into the mangrove swamps, with their ethereal bioluminescence, is almost unmissable. Snorkelling, diving, and guided trekking into the forest are also on offer. For the kids, there’s fruit picking, beach picnics, mini treks with a naturalist, and even scuba experience lessons.
There is a lot to say about the sustainability of the Taj Andaman. Ten years in concept planning and construction, they had to surmount a lot of conservation hurdles and the result has been very well received. No trees felled, rainwater harvesting, solar energy, a water bottling plant, biodegradable products and investment in keeping the island plastic free. The reduction of carbon is a work in progress and very impressive. A luxury resort built on the premise of sustainability; an example of best practice.
