Originally built as a family home by descendants of Javanese royalty, the Puri Mas Boutique Resort & Spa’s decor has unexpectedly elaborate elements in places, and a homely, welcoming atmosphere. The villas at the secluded spa annex, just 2 km inland, are our favourites, as you have the surrounding tropical gardens virtually to yourself.
The rooms are decorated in traditional style, using carved woods and local textiles in a variety of vivid shades. The restaurant overlooking the beach serves a range of local and international specialities, including plenty of fresh local seafood. Walk barefoot across the sand, lay back by the pool, treat yourself at the nearby spa, and enjoy a bit of offbeat beachside bliss.

Where it began…
We love luxuriating on golden sandy beaches as much as anyone, but we love an interesting backstory even more, and it doesn’t get much more unusual than a beach boutique run by descendants of royalty! It’s not just the novelty factor at play here, though: the warm welcome and sense of family history really adds something extra to the idyllic location.
Luxury with local style
The Puri Mas Boutique Resort & Spa has a real sense of place, combining classic elements of barefoot beach luxury with plenty of local Lombok materials and motifs. Traditional peaked thatch and decorative details allow each bungalow to sit gently within its lush garden surroundings, and the cool, white interiors are given splashes of colour with traditional fabrics and inlaid wood.
