This resort could be described as being a little quirky, but its location on the soft Senggigi Beach sands is unbeatable. Originally built as a family home by descendants of Javanese royalty, the resort’s decor has unexpectedly elaborate elements in places, and a homely, welcoming atmosphere. The villas at the secluded spa annex, just 2 km down the beach, are our favourites, as you have the surrounding tropical gardens virtually to yourself.
The rooms are decorated in traditional style, using carved wooden and rattan furniture and local textiles in a variety of vivid colours. The restaurant’s fresh local seafood is served, rather unusually, with a side of ballroom dancing lessons - there’s that quirky edge we mentioned! Salsa your way across the sand, lay back by the pool, treat yourself at the spa and enjoy a bit of offbeat beachside bliss.

Where it began…
We love luxuriating on golden sandy beaches as much as anyone, but we love an interesting backstory even more, and it doesn’t get much more unusual than a beach boutique run by descendants of royalty where you can learn to ballroom dance! It’s not just the novelty factor at play here, though; the warm welcome and sense of family history really adds something extra to the idyllic location.
What can you do there?
Lay by the pool, wander along the gorgeous beach, practise yoga in the garden, learn a few ballroom dancing steps with dinner, and snorkel and dive in Lombok’s phenomenal marine habitat.
