Among the rice fields and lush wilderness of Sidemen in Bali’s eastern wilderness, with the silhouette of Mount Agung on the horizon, Wapa di Ume Sidemen is a bit of an idyll. Well away from the rush of Bali’s busiest regions, the surrounding hills rise above the fields, and beyond the bank on the other side of the river. From the resort, you can easily make your way down to the edge of the fast-flowing water to watch local life by the waterside and see agricultural workers busy in the surrounding fields.
The resort’s selection of suites and villas is tastefully spread out across the hillside, just far enough apart to offer a proper sense of seclusion whilst still being close to the property’s core. Each is positioned to frame extraordinary views of the landscape from wide bedroom windows and deep, spa-style baths. This property feels like the perfect balance: immersed in nature, with just enough luxury touches to make each stay feel that bit more indulgent.

Hikes, bikes & sights
Getting out into the surrounding hills is a must whilst staying at Wapa di Ume. Wander around the grounds, join the complementary light trek offered first-thing each morning - a refreshing way to start the day - or head out on a bicycle trek to explore farther afield. This easy outdoorsiness is one of the things we love most about staying in Sidemen, away from the crowds, and the Wapa di Ume makes the most of its rural location. Take a wander through Sidemen’s key sights, pass a leisurely hour or two in local cafes, and enjoy delicious dining in nearby restaurants.
Relaxed, cosy feel
Finding time and space to properly relax is key to well-rounded travel, and the Wapa di Ume is a great spot to do just that. Everything feels spacious and bright, with wide windows overlooking the surrounding greenery. The resort is relatively small, so the central double-level infinity pool is easily accessible from everywhere, with more stunning views out over the valley from the pool terrace. The ambiance is chic and cosmopolitan, with attentive staff and plenty of calm space to sit back and soak it all in. Bliss.
