When is the best time to visit the Maldives?

It’s a bit of an industry insider joke about how many other travel companies use our detailed, month-by-month weather pages to help them sell their own holidays. That’s fine by us, we’re the sharing type and we've put a lot of research and effort into them over the years, so we take it as a compliment.
They are of course, written for you, our clients and we love how they help you make your travel plans.

When it comes to the weather in the Maldives, however, there’s only so many times we can repeat blue, sky and sunshine before it all comes a little meaningless so we’ve opted to write just a single page summary. We hope that you’ll understand.

Weather overview

The Maldives are a year-round destination, promising hot and sunny conditions throughout the year with temperatures remaining reasonably consistent, with highs ranging between 28°C and 32°C and lows rarely dropping beneath 24°C. That said there are unquestionably some months that are better than others, and to understand these it's best to start with the two seasons.

November - April: Dry season

Peak season at most resorts runs from January to April which is also the driest time of year. So whilst resort prices are peaking (other than Christmas and New Year in some cases) conditions are optimum for that idyllic Maldives honeymoon or holiday.

May - October: Wet season (read on to understand this better)

Between May and October there is a higher risk of rain, however downpours tend to be short-lived, leaving clear skies. During these months there is also an increased risk of storms also. Peak rainfall is typically in June.

When is the best time to dive in the Maldives

The best diving conditions in the Maldives are from December through to May. Currents will be specific to locations an do change with the seasons, however the overall benefit of these months is that you are not getting the big seas from the winter in the southern oceans.
