Set on a pristine stretch of sand, Tanjong Jara is one of Malaysia’s finest coastal properties; it’s absolutely stunning. Against an almost perfect curve of wide crescent-shaped beach, tall palms sway and staff bring drinks to your chosen spot.
The decor throughout is dark polished wood, white walls, patterned fabrics, and traditional artwork, designed to reflect the styles of 17th-century Malay palaces. Rooms are spacious and bright, all have magnificent views, many have private verandahs and some also boast outdoor baths. There are two restaurants on site and the menus offer a wide selection of dishes - the quality is high and the seafood in particular is excellent. The area is popular with divers and the hotel has its own dive centre, though many guests are just there for the sumptuous R&R…

On the beach…
The hotel may be beautiful, but it’s still usurped by the glorious coastline. Waking up with the knowledge that you can just walk straight out onto those sands feels like winning every day. All rooms are gorgeous, but it's easy to recommend the Anjung sea front rooms. They open right on to the beach. Families with older children can get 2 rooms next to each other, and enjoy leisurely mornings on the sand.
What can you do there?
There are some excellent diving opportunities to get involved with if you feel adventurous. Both divers and snorkelers are well catered for, and the resort operates its own dive centre and boat trips to the nearby Terengganu Marine Park. There’s a spa with an extensive menu of treatments, a resident naturalist on hand to organise walks into the local area, panoramic coastline views, and occasional trips to the local night market. Make your own way into town if you fancy some street food delights.
